Corey's Factory Tour: A Glimpse at Modular Construction

Updated: Mar 10

Corey’s Construction’s Factory Tour is by far the most popular event we hold for prospective and current clients, and for good reason. This tour captures the fascinating process of assembling a modular home all within a single, temperature controlled, building. In this post we will cover how the factory environment speeds up construction time, debunk the use of “cheap” materials, showcases why modular homes are more “green”, and highlights the benefit of seeing staged homes.

For many years, Corey’s was initially a traditional, stick-built homebuilder, but when we firsthand saw Ritz-Craft’s factory and the high quality modular homes they assembled, we soon switched to being a solely modular builder. We found this experience to be so educational that we made the decision to extend it to our clients, so they too can learn about how and where their homes are made. Over the course of many years, it has proved to be a worthwhile trip for our consumers and we continue to promote it. so, here's what you can expect to see when you join us for this informative tour!

Modular Construction= Less Build time

As previously mentioned, every home is assembled within one singular building. The biggest benefit of this enclosed space is that adverse weather conditions don’t halt production. In traditional homebuilding, construction has to stop every time rain, snow, or extreme temperatures arise. Additionally, modular homes are passed through this building via the conveyor belt system, similar to the manufacturing of cars. This means that highly trained workers are assigned to one specific stage of home-building, ensuring the highest quality craftsmanship from insulation, to drywall, to roofing.

Modular Does NOT = Cheap Materials

Oftentimes there is a misconception that modular homes are just low-quality prefab homes or built cheaply, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. We are required to follow all the same building codes as traditional builders, meaning that we use all the same materials so that our homes last the test of time. This tour allows you to see first hand all the tools and materials that are used to assemble every piece of your home, allowing it to appreciate in value at the same rate as traditional homes.

Ecofriendly Homes

One of the most eye-opening aspects of this tour is just how “green” modular construction is compared to stick built homes. No piece of material is wasted, especially wood. As soon as a piece becomes small enough, they throw it into their wood stoves that heat the entire facility. Typically those pieces would be thrown into a trash pile before being hauled to a dump. Even scrap drywall is used to help seal and add an additional layer of support to wall seams.

The Final Product

While seeing homes as they are being built is exciting, we also believe that seeing the final product is just as important. You’ll have the opportunity to tour 4 different homes that are staged and designed to show a variety of the different options available when making selections for your own home. This brings everything together so you can get a visual of the detailed, custom homes that we produce.

We also invite you to join us at Rusty Rail for a meal paid for by us! We want you to have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about our unique process and relationship with Ritz-Craft. Building a home is a very personal and costly investment, so we pride ourselves on building not only great homes but great relationships with every client who walks through our doors.
